‘Download For Good’ Album, Featuring Iggy Pop, Now On iTunes!

Download For Good: Music That Changes The WorldThe album “Download For Good: Music That Changes The World,” which benefits the David Lynch Foundation, is now available on iTunes. The 33-track compilation includes Iggy Pop’s cover of “Milk Cow Blues,” along with live cuts, remixes, original songs and covers by Au Revoir Simone, Peter Gabriel, Moby, Alanis Morissette, Neon Trees, Arrested Development, Nancy Sinatra, Ozomatli, Maroon 5 and more.

In an interview, Iggy said, “I knew David was a good blues singer and a free spirit, so I thought I’d record a blues song, especially for this record. This is just the way I play for my own pleasure, around the house. I think it flowed out really well. I mean, I could feel the TM seeping in.”

The David Lynch Foundation brings the stress-reducing, health-promoting benefits of Transcendental Meditation to underserved populations, including at-risk inner city youth and veterans with post traumatic stress disorder, as well as American Indians, the homeless and prisoners. To date, DLF has provided scholarships for about 150,000 adults and students to learn to meditate, eliminating the traumatic stress that undermines academic achievement and fuels substance abuse and violent behavior.

U.K. newspaper The Guardian has featured The Stooges at number 3 in its top 50 list of key events in the history of indie music, citing the band being signed to Elektra. The newspaper wrote, “On 22 September 1968, Elektra Records’ publicity director, Danny Fields, travelled to Ann Arbor, Michigan to see the MC5’s fusion of insurrectionary politics and high-energy rock’n’roll. He was floored by the experience. He was even more floored when the 5 insisted he see their “baby brother” band, a strange improvisatory troupe called the Psychedelic Stooges.”

Iggy got annoyed that security guards wouldn’t let him drag up crowd members to dance on stage – so he enlisted some VIPs instead.
