This weekend, Iggy Pop presented Joan Jett — a longtime animal rights activist — with PETA’s Nanci Alexander Activist Award. Iggy told the New Times, “I’m not a vegetarian, but I’m evolved eater and have been aware of these sorts of issues since the ’60s. I came out today because I’m a huge fan of Joan and I really want to show my support. When they asked, there was no way I wasn’t going to attend.” Jett also unveiled her new PETA ad as part of a campaign to spread awareness of vegetarianism.

Iggy and the Stooges have confirmed that they will perform at next year’s Peace And Love Festival in Borlänge, Sweden on June 28th! More information about the festival and tickets can be found at PeaceandLove.se.

Iggy and the Stooges will be rocking Australia! The band has confirmed three new concert dates, in addition to their previously scheduled appearance on March 30th at the Byron Bay Bluesfest. Tickets for these new shows will go on sale November 7th:

• March 25 – Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide
• March 27 – Festival Hall, Melbourne
• April 2 – Hordern Pavilion, Sydney

Morrissey’s U.S. concert dates will be rescheduled. This impacts Iggy and the Stooges’ performance on November 24th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Iggy and the Stooges rocked the Austin City Limits Music Festival on October 14th, and you can catch part of their performance in the video below! The Houston Press covered the festival and had this to say:

Iggy and the Stooges are the hardest, roughest, and most evil band that has and ever will play ACL, that’s a fact. The festival delves into hard rock, but it’s usually of the cuddlier grunge-y variety, and not that sinewy, nut-busting sort that Iggy Pop and the Stooges make together.
Sunday night’s set was completely unnerving and chaotic, and it was everything the festival needed. … Sunday night was Pop and company teaching fans how to open up and bleed.

Check out James Williamson’s new collaboration with Wendy James — a cover of Sonic’s Rendezvous Band’s “You’re So Great,” where his signature search-and-destroy guitar riffs retain the gasoline-soaked essence of Fred ‘Sonic’ Smith’s original, yet the song is transformed into a high-energy slice of modern power-pop with Wendy’s boyant and soaring vocals throughout the track. The song is Side A of a new double-single. On Side B, both Williamson and James collaborated with The Bad Seeds’ Jim Sclavunos for a version of Bob Dylan’s “It’s Alright Ma.”

Iggy Pop, members of The Kinks, The Raveonettes and Todd Rundgren are to feature on “Who Are You,” a 16-track tribute album dedicated to The Who that will cover many of the band’s best-known songs recorded in one-off collaborations. Iggy will perform “I Can’t Explain” on the album, which is scheduled to be released on October 2nd.

Five years after the last Stooges album, the band is working on new material, bassist Mike Watt tells Rolling Stone. “I’ll tell you this: James Williamson a few months ago had me put bass on nine songs that he gave to Ig [Iggy Pop] and Ig is writing up words,” says Watt, who’s played with the Stooges since 2003. “So I just know there are new tunes and in fact in November he wants me to do some more. I don’t know about some album or whatever or what the plan is with that stuff, but very interesting.”

… For Watt, who still views himself first as a Stooges fan, the thought of new material is exciting on many levels. “I think James came up with some good licks and the way Ig fleshes them out, I’m very curious,” he says. “But I don’t know if they have an album planned. I’m also looking at it as, ‘Whoa, maybe new songs to do at gigs.'”
